Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about eFoil lessons, rentals, parties, and buying your own board.

Do I need any experience to eFoil?
Not at all. Most of our riders have never touched a board before. Your instructor covers everything from the ground up, and most first-timers are up and gliding within a single session.
Is eFoiling hard to learn?
eFoiling is easy to learn but takes a lifetime to master — and it's always fun either way. The electric motor generates the speed, so you focus on balance instead of paddling or catching a wave. Most beginners progress from belly to knees to feet within one to two hours; athletic riders sometimes stand and fly within ten minutes.
How safe is eFoiling?
Learning to eFoil is quite safe compared to other water sports. Every lesson includes a safety briefing, a helmet and lifejacket for every rider, and an instructor with you on the water. You'll learn proper falling technique and how to get back on the board. The board's weight makes it stable, and the handheld controller lets you keep the speed wherever you're comfortable.
What are the stages of learning to eFoil?
You start riding on your stomach, advance to your knees, then stand while the board is still on the water. Next come short flights above the surface, and finally sustained, relaxed flight with turns — that's the magic-carpet part.
Are there age, weight, or swimming requirements?
Yes. Utah state law's minimum age to operate a motorized vessel is 12, and riders under 18 must have an adult guardian present at all times. There's no minimum weight; the maximum rider weight is 250 pounds. All riders must be strong swimmers.
What should I bring?
Wear a swimsuit or quick-dry clothes and bring a towel, sunscreen, a long-sleeve rashguard if you have one, and a change of clothes. We provide the board, helmet, lifejacket, wetsuit, and all the instruction you'll need. Our Preflight Checklist page has the full packing list and meeting-point details.
How fast does an eFoil go?
Top speeds run near 30 mph, but you're in control of the pace with the handheld controller. Most students comfortably foil at around 10 to 12 mph.
How long does the battery last?
It depends on rider weight, average speed, and wing size. Lighter riders get longer sessions; larger beginner-friendly wings add a little drag and use a bit more power. For an adult around 180 pounds on a high-aspect wing, the battery lasts roughly 2 hours.
How long does it take to charge the battery?
About 2 hours for a full charge. If you're sharing a board with family or friends, we recommend a spare battery so the fun doesn't stop — most riders want 1–2 hours of ride time each.
What are the primary components of an eFoil?
Six main parts: the board (4–6 feet long, providing buoyancy), a waterproof handheld controller that manages your speed, an interchangeable hydrofoil wing that affects speed and flight height, the electric motor, the battery (roughly 2 hours of riding), and built-in safety features like automatic shutoff.
Does the controller float?
Yes, the controller floats — and it has a strap that keeps it in your hand if you fall.
What safety equipment do you wear during a lesson?
Every rider gets a helmet and lifejacket. A rashguard protects your skin while you're learning, and we provide free 4/3mm wetsuits for warmth in colder water.
Where do you operate?
We ride on three of Utah's best stretches of water — Deer Creek Reservoir, Jordanelle, and Lake Powell. We'll help you pick the launch spot nearest you.
Can I rent an eFoil on my own?
Yes, once you've completed a lesson or have prior experience — for multi-day rentals we ask that at least one person in your group has gone through a guided lesson, where you learn how to safely transport, charge, and connect your board. We offer hourly rentals at Deer Creek and multi-day kits for Lake Powell and beyond, with board, battery, and safety gear included.
Do you host groups and parties?
Absolutely. Birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette parties, corporate outings, and family days are some of our favorites. We handle the boards, gear, and coaching so your group just has fun — see our eFoil Parties page for packages.
How do I book?
Book online from any experience page, or head to our contact page and give us a call. A signed liability waiver is required before you ride.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Sessions are weather- and water-condition dependent for your safety. If conditions aren't safe to ride, we'll work with you to reschedule.
Can I buy my own eFoil? Why buy through Adventure Elevated?
Yes — we sell SiFly eFoils and custom kits starting around $6,000, with new boards typically arriving within 1–2 weeks. We partner directly with the manufacturer, so we can help you with board selection, sizing, and assembly — and manufacturer incentives mean our pricing beats ordering direct. We back it with a Low Price Guarantee, and our "Fly Before You Buy" program lets you try one before you commit.
